Welcome to the USAID Iraq Tijara Provincial Economic Growth Program!

Welcome!

The USAID-Tijara* Provincial Economic Growth Program is a five-year initiative to promote private sector growth and employment in Iraq. The program is funded by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The USAID-Tijara program implements an integrated approach to the formation and expansion of micro, small and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs) to support:

On the supply side:
Development of sustainable and efficient financial institutions that offer competitive, high-quality, inclusive and diversified financial products and services to a steadily increasing number of micro and small-scale entrepreneurs in both rural and urban areas of Iraq.

On the demand side:
Removal of constraints at the business enabling environment and firm levels by addressing legal and administrative hurdles facing MSME formation and expansion and providing business development services to enterprises within the local communities.

The USAID-Tijara program also provides:

  • Support to the Iraqi Ministry of Trade to facilitate Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization and normalize Iraq’s international trade relations;
  • Technical assistance to the National Investment Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and its Iraq Industrial Development Corporation to help develop an improved enabling environment for increased trade and investment in the private sector; and
  • Management of a youth entrepreneurship grants program that helps generate employment and stabilize under-developed areas of Iraq while helping young Iraqis build a better future for themselves and their families.

*Tijara means trade in Arabic.
