The USAID Tijara Provincial Economic
Growth program promotes private sector
growth and employment in Iraq.

Tijara, which means “Trade” in Arabic, is a three to five year program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that promotes private sector growth and employment in Iraq. We develop Iraqi communities through services that stimulate businesses and promote greater access to loans and other financial services.

Tijara is the follow-on to USAID's Izdihar project, which started in 2005 and ended in March 2008. We build upon Izdihar's work in the areas of sustainable microfinance, bank lending for small and medium size enterprises, business development services and training, investment promotion, trade reform and access into the World Trade Organization.

We work together with local counterparts – business associations, NGOs, government officials, local administration and local religious leaders – from all governorates of Iraq to advance private sector development in the country. We cooperate with Provincial Reconstruction Teams, with other US agencies and projects and with international organizations to enhance our impact through mutual support and synergy.
